Increasing and decreasing are absolutely necessary if you'd like to shape the edge of your diamond net, if you'd like to make a piece based on square or circular net, and for certain fancy lace stitches.

Increase method #1: The Double Stitch
This stitch is just a matter of netting a second stitch into a loop,with the second knot above the first.

Increase method #2: The Split Stitch
This stitch is a bit more complex than the double stitch, and consists of taking a stitch in the gap between two loops, placing the knot in the loop from the previous row.
